Is DeWALT Bringing USB-C Charging Capabilities to XR Batteries?

The USB-C's capability to deliver lots of power and high data speed in a tiny universal connector is pretty well unmatched. So it's no wonder how it's been such a key factor in versatility for big tech manufacturers, offering a convenient one size fits all solution to consumers.

Some power tool platforms have a huge selection of bare tools available, and all come with their own proprietary chargers. Most are very large and clunky, but totally necessary.

The problem is that as a consumer, I know that they can do better. Case in point, power tools have gotten significantly smaller, and output significantly more power than their early predecessors. The same goes for batteries, more compact, more power. So what's the deal with the chargers?  It seems the only significant improvement we've seen lately is the overall charging speed. It's very clear that we're due for an upgrade in convenience, and at the very least, versatility.

Thankfully it seems that a few major power tool manufacturers are realizing this fact, and are finally starting to answer the call. Companies like DeWalt and Ryobi have both announced products that offer the convenience of USB- C charging to their power tool platforms, providing consumers more charging options and thus, more productivity.

DeWALT's new 20V Max USB-C charger/power source features a bidirectional USB-C port- that’s one port for charging input AND output plus is capable of delivering up to 100w. Which is a heck of a lot, seeing as how they offer some pretty hefty batteries, all the way up to a massive 15 Ah variety! For scale, just the 5 ah DeWalt battery could fully charge some of the largest laptops on the market.

This comes as Ryobi announces working on a new, very similar project with a few more features for their 18v One+ platform, just a little less gusto in the charging department. Still a very convenient addition to their cordless lineup.
