DeWalt Issues Recall for New 18" Corded Chainsaw

DeWalt has recalled its new Type 1, 18 inch, 15 amp corded chainsaws. Around 8500 units are affected by this recall and were sold in hardware and tool supply stores nationwide, they would have been purchased between the dates June 2021 to November 2021. Only date codes 2021 23-H5 to 2021 40-H5 are affected. You can find this date on the bottom of the chainsaw, it should be stamped into the yellow plastic right near where the black handle meets the body of the chainsaw (shown below).

This recall comes as DeWalt reveals the potential for the chainsaw to turn on when the switch is in the "off" position and may even turn on when plugged in, possibly causing serious bodily harm to users though there have been no reports of injuries stemming from this hazard at the time of publishing. However, CPSC instructs consumers to "immediately stop using the recalled chainsaws":

"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled chain saws and contact DEWALT to receive a pre-paid shipping label to return the product directly to DEWALT in order to receive a free replacement chain saw."
